Home-Start believes that children need a happy and secure childhood and that parents play the key role in giving their children a good start in life and helping them to achieve their full potential
Vision and Objectives
We want to see a society in which every parent has the support they need to give their children the best possible start in life.
We want all our children to grow up with:
- Safe places to live and play
- Support when their parents suffer from a mental illness
- Protection from hunger and poor nutrition
We aim to:
- Reach out to families who need us most
- Champion and promote the value of volunteers and volunteering
- Actively engage in partnerships that improve family support and services
We do this by providing:
Home Visiting Service– Family Support Workers and Volunteers with an interest in helping children and families will be safely recruited and trained to offer practical and emotional support to families in their own homes. They will build a unique relationship with the family which will provide a sound basis for helping through those difficult times. Visits will be between 2-4 hours and will focus on the needs identified by our experienced Coordinators, responsible for the supervision and support of the volunteers.
Family Learning Group– twice weekly families will be supported in a nurturing group which focusses on strengthening the relationships and confidence within a family through the medium of play to provide babies and toddlers with the opportunities they need to develop and grow.
Informal Workshops– weekly groups during term time to respond to the needs of parents to build confidence and skills which will improve their family life. Topics such as cookery, confidence building, child safety, healthy relationships, well-being tools, freedom programme, baby massage, amongst others.
Freedom Programme– We will deliver this 11 week programme on a small group basis for women who have experienced or are experiencing what would be deemed as controlling/abusive relationships.
Big Hopes Big Futures- helping families prepare for their young children going to school and the routines and skills which will be useful for everyone to kick start their education. We deliver this on a one to one and small group basis depending on needs.
Programmes for Parents:
Family Links Nurturing Programme– our qualified staff team offer parents the opportunity to participate in small groups or in certain circumstances on a one-to-one basis in a tried and tested programme to help cope with the demands of being a parent. Supporting parents to understand their children’s behaviours and deal with challenges to have a calmer and happier life.
Welcome to the World (Family Links)- designed for expectant Mums and Dads our qualified staff team offer parents the opportunity to participate in small groups or in certain circumstances on a one-to-one basis in a tried and tested programme to help get ready to be a parent and learn more about the things we can do as parents to prepare and give our babies the best start in life.
